Former Education Minister, Aja-Nwachuku for burial April 16


The remains of the former Minister of Education, Igwe Aja-Nwachuku, would be committed to mother earth on April 16, 2016.

His first son, Nnamno disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

The statement said that Aja-Nwachukwu died in an Israeli hospital where he went for medical treatment.

Nnamno said the former minister would be buried at his country home, Obodo-Oma, Okposi Okwu in Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

“Aged 63, AjaNwachuku, until his death, was a devout Christian, an Ambassador of the Assemblies of God Church and a trustee of the Evangel University.

“An erstwhile university lecturer, he served Ebonyi State and Nigeria in different capacities, including being the Education Minister under the Late President Umaru Yar’Adua and was Pro-chancellor, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.

“He contested the PDP governorship primaries of Ebonyi State in 2006 and lost.

“A strong apostle of politics without bitterness, Aja Nwachuku was the first Nigerian to serve as minister in the same ministry where his father was also minister,’’ the statement said.

The statement said that the late minister’s father, Onyiba Aja-Nwachuku, was the first Education Minister of Independent Nigeria.

According to the statement, Aja-Nwachukwu is survived by a wife, children, brothers, sisters, as well as numerous relations.
