A former Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Edet Nkop, OFR, has expressed sadness over the continued bombing and kidnapping in various parts of the country, especially in the Niger Delta region, noting that tribalism is responsible for the wave of unrest in the country.
Nkop made this assertion in his country home at Ikot Iko Village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area on Friday to celebrate his 80th birthday anniversary, stressing that inter-tribal marriages could help curb the issue of tribalism.
According to him, “We as Nigerians have duties to live in harmony with one another. There is no tribe that is superior to another. As a Nigerian, you are supposed to live and work anywhere you choose in peace and harmony with your host community.
“Indeed, Nigerians must develop a strong spirit of tolerance and accommodation for us to move the country forward.”
The ex-Chief Judge enjoined Nigerians to give the Federal Government a chance, saying that the Buhari’s administration means well for the country.
While commenting on the present state of the judiciary in Nigeria, he said the judiciary should imbibe a high degree of discipline and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
