Unknown gunmen have abducted Mrs Mary Enwongulu, the All Progressives Congress’ candidate for Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the 2015 general elections.
According to reports, the spokesperson of the Nassarawa State Police Command, ASP Ismaila Umar-Numan, on Wednesday in Akwanga, confirmed the abduction, saying the APC candidate was kidnapped in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The Command spokesperson appealed for calm from the family members and the general public as efforts were on-going to rescue the victim from her abductors.
Umar-Human said, “We have received information this morning that Mrs Mary Enwongulu has been kidnapped and we immediately mobilized our men to make sure that they rescued her from the hand of the abductors.
“It is true that she has been kidnapped. We will make sure that police rescues her from the hands of the abductors. The issue is not even whether her abductors had demanded for ransom or not.’’
He noted that the police were working on how to rescue her from her captors. He also called on members of the public with useful information to share it with the police.
Commenting on the kidnapping, the Personal Assistant to Enwongulu, Miss Rosemary Audu, said the gunmen stormed the victim’s residence at about 2.am and whisked her away.
“I was with her in the house when the abductors came into the house around 2.am and I pleaded with them to leave her, but they went away with her”, she said.
Also reacting to the incident, Mr Joel Tanko, the victim’s security guard said escaped for safety when he heard gunshots outside the house.
“I was at the gate when I heard gunshots around 2.am outside the gate and I had to run and hide for my self within the house,” Tanko stated.
