Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina has insisted that the Presidency was not behind the current legal battle been faced by the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
Saraki alongside his deputy, Ekweremadu have been arraigned before an FCT High Court, Abuja for alleged forgery of senate rules in 2015.
Adesina made the assertion while speaking with the Punch.
The Senate President is also being prosecuted at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, for false and anticipatory declaration of assets.
On whether the case against Saraki would be withdrawn if he stepped down as President of the Senate, Adesina said, “Senator Saraki’s legal battle was not originated by the Presidency in the first place, so this issue does not arise.”
The trial for the alleged forgery of senate rules is expected to continue tomorrow.
Charged alongside Saraki and Ekweremadu are former past Clerk to the National Assembly, Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, and the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Benedict Efeture.
