Ekiti State Government has paid compensation to people whose buildings and structures are affected by the construction of an overhead bridge in the state capital, Ado-Ekiti.
Also, the state government has started the pulling down of the buildings and structures on the way of the project so as to give room for the contractors to work unhindered.
The State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, who monitored the demolition exercise in Okesa area of the town yesterday, said there was no point delaying the project when those affected had been paid and duly given enough notice.
“First, we appreciate the people whose structures and buildings are affected by the construction work, we all have to make sacrifices for the development of our state. We must all ensure that our state competes favourably with others and on our part as a government, we are determined to give the people of the state our best despite the paucity of funds.
“Properties affected were duly assessed and the owners have been paid. The compensation ranges from N100,000 to N15 million. We are hopeful that the project will be delivered next year. We also want to appeal to road users and our people generally that they should bear with us concerning the inconvenience the road project is causing them. That is why we are takig steps to open up other alternate routes.
“I appeal to the people of the state to cooperate and support our administration, we have always given priority to the welfare of the people and determined to take our state to greater height. Ekiti is our own and is our state and we should stop politics of bitterness and pulling others down.
“All our legacy projects are on course and we will deliver as promised. My administration is not going to leave any abandoned project for others to inherit,” the governor said.
The landlords commended the governor for the prompt payment of their compensation.
One of them, Mr Akinrinade Sunday, who was given N12 million for his affected property, said the governor did the right thing by paying their compensation before the demolition of their structures.
He praised the developmental efforts of the Fayose administration and prayed that God takes the governor to higher level.
Mrs Felicia Apeke and Mr Olaniyi Olaleye, lauded the governor for his efforts at developing the state and putting the welfare of the people first.
Mr Akinrinade Sunday said,” I thank Governor Ayodele Fayose for the prompt payment of our compensation. We have all collected our cheques and by paying us before the demolition started, the government has done its part and we are ready to cooperate and support the governor in the task of developing our state.”
For Mrs Felicia Apeke, the administration of Governor Fayose has done very well.
“I thank Governor Fayose for his efforts at developing our state, this flyover project is unprecedented in the history of our state and those of us affected by the project see it as sacrifices on our part for the development of our state,” she opined.
Another landlord, Mr Olaniyi Olaleye, said,”I appreciate Governor Fayose for his giant strides in the state. We are ready to support and cooperate with his administration in the effort to develop the state. When projects such as these are to be executed, it needs the support and cooperation of us all.”
The Chairman of Ado Local Government, Mr Deji Ogunsakin, whose council was paid over N900,000 for part of its market in Okesa that was affected by the road project, said Ekiti State was witnessing a new lease of life with the coming of Governor Fayose.
“We have never had it this good in our state. Governor Ayodele Fayose has proven to be a great leader and good manager of men and resources. Despite the poor economic outlook in the country, he is embarking on projects that will forever write his name in the hearts of the people of the state. We appreciate his efforts and I appeal to all our people to continue to support and stand by him,” he stated.
