Two people have been reportedly killed and 60 houses utterly destroyed in Kachia local government area of Kaduna State due to flood that hit the area.
DAILY POST correspondent gathered that the flood resulted from a recent heavy downpour experienced in Kachia town and the victims affected were mainly those residing at the river bank.
Caretaker committee chairman of the local government, Mr. Abel Daniel, said already the council had checked the damage cost by the flood and the state government led by the deputy governor and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had also assessed the situation and assured of prompt assistance to the victims.
He advised the people to always clear their drainages for easy passage of water during the rainy season while cautioning those residing by the river bank to steer clear of the area to avoid any of such incident in future.
“Natural disaster is like a thief that could come at any time, therefore, people should be cautious of where they reside and always clear their surroundings to avoid any unforeseen situation,” he warned.
The chairman noted that the situation was brought under control because it happened in the day time, thanking the state government and SEMA for their prompt visit, saying that it was an indication that the government of the day is a government of the people.
