A security man with one of the new generation banks in Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday met his untimely death as he was drowned in flood along Grace Bill road, Eket Local Government Area of the state.
The road, according to sources has turned into mini river due to heavy flood from downpours.
It was gathered that the incident occurred shortly after the victim left his duty post for lunch.
An eyewitness, Mrs Iquo Uwah, who identified the victim as Musa Obaje Yenusa, narrated that the deceased met his untimely death when he returned from lunch as the rain subsided, but road was still flooded and he could not identify the end of the road and the beginning of gutters. Iquo said in that confusion, the leg of the victim slipped and he fell into the gutter and was carried away by the flood to the amazement of other pedestrians who waited for the flood to reduce before moving to their destinations.
Her words, “As the victim was coming back from lunch, on getting to the bank where he worked, his legs slipped and the flood swept him away.”
She said that when the rain subsided, the victim was found in the gutter and his head was cut off as the body was tossed and hit on the walls of the gutters.
Another witness, Mr Raymond Bassey, expressed shock over the incident and confirmed that flood kills many people every year on that road during rainfall .
“It is very unfortunate that this happened to a non-indegene who is a contract staff to one of the new generation banks in Eket,” he said.
He said the family needed N150,000 to bury the corpse but the bank claimed that the victim was a contract staff and referred the matter to the contractor to take care of the victim .
