Five suspected armed robbers robbed at least four shops in a broad day light in Calabar South local government Area of Cross River State. The raided shops were at 46 Yellow Duke Street, Calabar South in Cross River State.
The incident occurred around 1pm on Saturday and lasted for over twenty minutes. Properties stolen were estimated at several thousands of Naira, including hand phones, cash and other valuables.
An eyewitness who gave her name as Justina Etim Udo said that the five suspected armed robbers shot sporadically into the air to scare the people and robbed successfully and left through Musaha Street to Anatigha.
Sadly, a boy of about seven years old, David Victor (Divine) was allegedly hit by stray robber bullet but did not sustained injury and the mother, Mrs Ekaette Victor said she was sleeping when the incident occurred.
“I was sleeping when I heard the noise and saw the robbers robbing shops including our own. They shot robber bullet into our shop but God helped us and the bullet hit my son, fortunately, he did not sustained injury but the robber bullet was found in my shop,” She said.
Another eyewitness who did not identify himself said, “the robbers came in a blue Mercedes Benz, but with no registration number, covered their eyes with hand kerchief.
“One of the robbers who blocked the road along Yellow Duke was a tall man, wore black jeans and body top with a bag hung at his back. He shot on the air to scare the people and speaks local language (Efik)’
When Police from the Federal SARS and other Police Divisions arrived the scene, a victim, Emmanuel Okon said he was hit by one of the robbers with bottle broken by them and inflicted injury.
“One of them used broken bottle on me and inflicted severe injury on my head. They did not take money from me but took my phone,” he stated, adding that they mounted road block, stopping vehicular movement.’
When DAILY POST contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo, she couldn’t take her calls, but the senior police officers seen at the scene who came with over ten other police officers and Civil Defence in about seven hilux cars promised to arrest the suspects and bring them to book.
