Police Command in Cross River State has gunned down five notorious armed robbers.

The robbers met their waterloo after attacking the U. D. King gas stations at Atu Street in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state on Sunday by 11.15 am.

Parading the dead robbers at the Atakpa Police Division in Calabar, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Inuwa Hafiz said that the criminals have been on police lists of wanted criminals.

His words, “Today, December 2, 2018 is a day when some of the notorious criminals who have been given us problem in Cross River State particularly Calabar South were caught up in gun duel with the police.

“They went to U. D. King gas station and robbed the place and in the process they had doubt among themselves and some security personnel as a result of which two securities personnel (Not Police men) were shot.”

According to the Commissioner, policemen chased the criminals and in the process four of them were gunned down while the fifth one was badly injured but later died.

“Four of them were gunned down and the fifth person was badly injured but later died. These were the same people we have already had their profiles, we were keeping torch to get them because they were the same group that snatched 2 of our AK 47 riffles.

“Unfortunately, today, having caught them red handed, the badly injured one gave off the ghost and we were able to recover the 2 AK 47 riffles.

“This is a pointer to the fact that the police and other security agencies in Cross River State are not going to relent in our efforts. This is the first one and we are not going to back out of this, anybody who decides to take up arms against law abiding citizens in the state would have themselves to blame.

“Henceforth, it going to be fire for fire, elections is coming, Christmas is coming, New Year is coming and Calabar is known to be tourist attractive area, we will not allow any criminal to have his or her way or to have their ways in the state, we will deal with them decisively

“I am calling on each and every parents to watch out for their wards, taking up arms illegally against anybody is not going to solve their own problem instead it compounded it.

“It is not our intention to kill but in the process of safeguarding ourselves and the citizenries, we have to do what is needful and that is what my policemen have done.”

The Commissioner said that those officers who showed gallantry, patriotism, dedications to duty, which IG has asked the police to do would be recommended for commendation.
