Head coach of MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has claimed that five European teams are keen on signing Stephen Odey from the club, despite his failed move to FC Midtjylland of Denmark.
The leading scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), underwent trials at the Danish club, but was not able to win a contract.
Odey has now returned to the country and Ilechukwu says the player’s dream of playing abroad is not dead.
“Stephen Odey is back to Nigeria. We are happy to receive him back, but I want him to rest for now, so he will not be involved in our State FA Cup final against Spartans. He will rejoin the team soon,” Ilechukwu told Completesportsnigeria.com.
On the news that there were discrepancies on the age of the player in his international passport and in his international clearance, Ilechukwu stated: “Nothing happened to his age. Odey’s age is what is on his passport, No falsification.
“I don’t really know what happened in Denmark, I wasn’t there, but as I’m talking with you now, more than five clubs in Europe still want him. He is that good. The offers are not coming from our rivals in the league here. MFM is one of best teams in Nigeria.”
