Five arrested in possession of fake $3,000 in Lafia

The Nasarawa State Police Command on Wednesday said it has arrested five men with more than 3,000 fake US Dollars.

The suspects were also caught with materials used for currency counterfeiting.

In a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Michael Adah, police detectives attached to Access Bank Plc, in Lafia on December 28, arrested one Theophilus Ogu, who attempted to exchange a fake note of 100 dollars.

During the interrogation of Ogu, he confessed to being a member of a gang specialized in the phony crime. His revelations led to the arrest of four others who had with them, fake 3,000 dollars.

Adah said the police also discovered from their hideout, mercury and other materials used in the production of the fake currencies.

He stated that the suspects would soon be charged to court.

The spokesman added that crime rate was low in the state during Christmas and New year celebration, as the command generally maintained law and order.

He urged members of the public to assist the police by providing useful information that will lead to reduction of crime in the state.
