Fish out those behind Fugar crises – Oshiomhole tasks Police

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has called on the police to fish out and prosecute those behind the crisis in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of the state, that led to the death of two persons.

The Governor, who lamented the unnecessary loss of lives and wanton destruction of property during a condolence visit to the families of the victims on Monday, said anyone found culpable will be brought to justice, no matter which political party he or she belongs.

At the home of the late 72-year-old Oboareyi Ivharue, who was shot dead during the fracas, the Governor, while commiserating with the four widows and 30 children over the death of the head of the family, said, “I am extremely sad by the incident because it is our responsibility to protect lives and property of all irrespective of political affiliation.

“The election is about the welfare of the people and should not be done with bullets.”

Oshiomhole, who was also at the residence of 46-year-old Mhodeme Joachim, who was also shot and hacked to death by suspected loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party during the fracas, assured the family that the culprits will not go unpunished as no act of provocation could justify the killings.

The Governor thereafter inspected the razed houses and the property of the Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria and the party’s councillorship candidate. He also met with the elders of the community, where he urged children of the deceased and the youth to resist the temptation of vengeance in order to avoid further escalation of the crisis.

While appealing to the youth to shun violence and resist being pushed into secret cults, Oshiomhole maintained that the state government will not condone politics of violence and bitterness as the local government was meant to develop the people and not otherwise.
