Firm threatens to sue newspaper over alleged libelous publication

A publication which appeared on 16th August, 2016, edition of a national daily, has drawn the ire of Nix Technologies Ltd with the company threatening to sue the concerned media house if it is not retracted.

In a letter to the Managing Director/ Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, which was made available to journalists in Jos, Monday, Counsel to Nix Technologies Ltd, Mr Christopher .A. Eichie also demanded an apology from the newspaper over what it tagged ‘’offensive material published on page 12 of the said edition with the caption, “EFCC probes Jang over alleged missing fund.”

In the story, the paper alleged that Nix Technogies Ltd was under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The paper also alleged that the company was awarded the same contract twice and was paid twice. The paper reported that the company is fronting for former Governor of Plateau state, Jonah Jang among others.

However, Counsel to the company, in the letter, denied the allegations. The statement they issued in response reads, “While we concede that the said publication is not entirely about our client, but our client was however affected by the last 13 lines of the publication. we wish to state categorically that all the allegations raised by your publication are false”. “We, therefore, give Thisday newspaper seven days ultimatum to retract the offensive publication or risk legal action,” the statement warned.
