Fire renders seven families homeless, destroy property in Delta community

Fire has rendered seven families homeless as it razed down a building at Odibo Street in the heart of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Property worth several millions of Naira were also engulfed by the inferno, DAILY POST can report.

Details as to what caused the fire were still sketchy at the time of filing this report.

However, an eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity said the fire started when the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC restored light to the area that had been in darkness for weeks.

According to the eyewitness,” The spark from a wire connecting the light to the compound led to the fire outbreak.”

An occupant of the compound simply identified as papa lucky said, “I could not save any of my properties from the fire. As I am now, I don’t have any place to go with my wife and four children.

“I am begging the Delta State Government to come and help us, no matter how small because this is too much for me to bear.”

It was learnt that the landlord of the compound has long been dead.

Efforts to speak with one of his sons simply identified as Samuel who usually collects rent was unsuccessful as he was not in the town when the incident occurred.
