Fire razes Abuja fruit market


It was indeed a tragic Monday for traders of Zuba Fruits Market, Abuja as fire razed their shops in the early hours of Monday.

DailyPost gathered that the fire started around 2am even as its cause is yet to be ascertained.

While commenting on the incident, Alhaji Abdullahi Saadu, Chairman, Zuba Fruits Market Association said, “We were helpless when the fire started at about 2am. We called the DPO and he called the Fire Service in Kubwa. All the shops in the market were razed by the fire, although no life was lost.

“We appeal to the relevant authorities, particularly the FCT Minister, to come to our aid since our means of livelihood have been destroyed by fire.”

Alhaji Saadu however commended the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Zuba, Mr. Femi Adelegan, for his quick response in ensuring that the neighbouring residential houses were not affected by the fire.

The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Zakari Angulu, who visited the scene of the fire incident said, “We are here to see the extent of the damage to enable us report to the appropriate authorities, particularly the FCT Minister.”

He affirmed the commitment of his administration in ensuring the protection of lives and property in the Gwagwalada Area Council, noting that assistance will be provided to ease the plights of the affected traders.
