Fire Sunday razed down eight commercial shops along the popular Okere Market Road in Okumagba layout, destroying property worth millions of naira.
DAILY POST gathered that the fire started as early as 3am Sunday morning but before officials of the Delta State Fire Service arrived the scene of incident, the fire had already done grave damage to goods of traders.
One of the victims, Mrs. Vivian Fasan, a wholesaler of drinks who spoke to our Delta State Correspondent cried out ,saying, ” I could not get anything out of my shop. Fire finished my shop before I got here.”
Fasan who could not give vivid accounts of how the incident started said,” I don’t know the cause of the fire. I was called at about 3am. I lost over four hundred thousand naira.”
Fasan also appealed to Delta State and Warri South Local Governments to come to her aid so that she can bounce back to business.
Another victim, Mrs. Gift Edeghare who also deals on drinks and provision corroborated the claims of Fasan as she lamented the incident saying,”I don’t know how to start or even if I will come back to this place.”
Edeghare claimed that she lost commodities worth over three million naira to the fire.
An electrical material dealer, Mr. Okuda Jahswill stated that he was called at about 4am but before he arrived the scene of the incident fire had already razed down his shop as he lost goods over one million two hundred thousand naira.
Jahswill said,” I could not pick anything from my shop,”as he called on the government to assist them ( traders) with relief materials as well as financial assistance so as to bounce back to business.
