Fire guts National Population Commission’s Lagos office

The Lagos State Fire Service Department on Sunday announced that there was a fire outbreak at the National Population Commission’s (NPC) Lagos Office on Babs Animashaun Street, Surulere.

The State’s Director of Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe, confirmed the incident.

He said fire engulfed a building, housing ballot boxes belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, at about 3.15 p.m on Sunday.

The Director further stated that fire fighters and fire engines from Fire Service Departments in Isolo, Ilupeju and Sari-Iganmu, were battling to contain the inferno.

“The spillover from the fire had affected a nearby building, but the fire-fighters were able to bring the situation under control shortly after their arrival.

“Our men are now battling to bring the fire in the building housing the ballot boxes under control,” he said.

Fadipe, however, added that the extent of the damage was not clear and no casualties were recorded as at the time of filing this report.
