Financial leakages: Rivers Government bemoans corruption

The Rivers State government has said it is poised to block all revenue leakages affecting the finances of the state.

Commissioner for Finance in the State, Fred Kpakol stated this in a crucial meeting he had with staff of the Ministry of Finance at the conference hall in the Ministry, recently.

Kpakol, who was recently recalled to the state cabinet after serving a 48-hour suspension, noted that “the era in which the Ministry of Finance was viewed as a corrupt Ministry is over”, adding that under his watch as Commissioner for Finance anyone who engaged in unconventional or corrupt practices would be exposed.

He disclosed that in addition to supplying the nominal rolls, vouchers and BVN to the Ministry of Finance, all MDA’s should also make available their attendance registers to the Ministry of Finance as a condition for receiving February salary.

Kpakol stated that this should not be seen as a witch hunt but as an effort by Government to block all leakages so that funds would be available to build infrastructure for the benefit of all.

The Commissioner appealed that “all hands should be on deck to support the efforts of Governor Nyesom Wike as he fulfills his campaign promises to the good people of Rivers State”.
