Final report on APC merger ready for submission to parties

The Joint Inter-Party Merger Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will soon submit its final report to the caucuses of the various parties involved in the merger, DailyPost has gathered.

The parties involved in the merger are the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN; Congress for Progressive Change, CPC; All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP; Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

DailyPost yesterday reported that Bisi Akande (ACN National Chairman) was picked as the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, while Musa Tumnsa (ANPP secretary) and Sadiat Farouk (CPC National Treasurer) will work as secretary and national treasurer respectively.

The constitution of the committee was in compliance with the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

INEC had after acknowledging the receipt of APC’s letter of intent, asked the merging political parties that they must put in place elected executives before proceeding with their registration.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting of the JIMC in Abuja on Tuesday, a member of the merger committee and the leader of ACN team, Tom Ikimi, disclosed that each party would hold its caucus meeting on Tuesday night where the final report would be concluded.

“There will be caucus meeting of the merging parties. We have worked out various options which we want to take to the caucuses. We will meet with the leadership in our caucuses and finalise these matters.

“We have put in various structures to ensure that all the merging parties are carried along, and this, we will discuss tonight (last night). Every party has its own operandi.”

Ikimi, also confirmed that certain forms received from INEC had been completed and sent back, explaining that the forms required the names of the members of the interim leadership.

“I cannot give you any further update on what you know. Application has been put, INEC has replied and some forms have been given to the parties to complete and these forms to complete are to have the names of the interim national officers. On the submission of names, we shall discuss it with the leadership of our parties and all these issues will be resolved,” he said.
