FIFA U-20 World Cup: Mali, Senegal qualify for semi-finals

Africa’s remaining two representatives at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Mali and Senegal, have made it through to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Mali overcame Germany, who had earlier dumped out the Flying Eagles of Nigeria. The match 1-1 after regulation time, but the Malians prevailed 4-3 on penalties in Christchurch.

In the other match, Senegal eliminated Uzbekistan 1-0 in Wellington and will not play Brazil in the final four.

Serbia will square up against Mali, after defeating the USA 6-5 on penalties after their game ended goalless.

Of the two teams left from the continent, Mali are the more experienced in the competition, as they won bronze in 1999.
