Coach of Nigeria’s U-17 team, Emmanuel Amuneke, has admitted that his boys found it tough to get going against USA, in their first game at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
Second-half goals from Chukwudi Agor and Victor Osimhen, saw the Golden Eaglets clinch all three points at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, Santiago De Chile.
Amuneke has now revealed the pep talk he had with his team at the break, that spurred them to victory.
“Considering it was the first match, I think it was a good game,” he said.
“At the beginning it was pretty even, everything very tactical, neither of us wanted to make a mistake. At half time I told my players to believe in themselves, and it worked, because we were more precise.
“Besides the three points, which are very important, I also liked that we kept our heads even when we could not get things going.”
Nigeria are on top of A with three points and play Chile on Wednesday morning at the Estadio Sausalito, Vina Del.
