FIFA overlooks Nigerian referees again

No Nigerian referee will take charge of a match at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France.

In a statement released on Wednesday, FIFA Referees Committee confirmed 15 referees and 30 assistants, have been shortlisted for the tournament.

Only two referees and four assistant referees from Africa make the cut.

The referees are Lidya Tafesse Abebe of Ethiopia and Zambian Gladys Lengwe.

The assistants areL Bernadetta Kwimbira (Malawi), Mary Njoroge (Kenya), Lidwine Rakotozafinoro (Madagascar) and Victoire Queency (Mauritius).

In March, Nigerian referees were also omitted from the list of 36 referees and 63 assistant referees selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Ghana and Nigeria are the two countries that will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup which will take place between August 5 and 24.
