The Code of Conduct Tribunal, has confirmed that its Chairman, Danladi Umar, was on Friday, attacked by some gunmen on the Keffi-Gitata Road in Nasarawa State.

Head of Press and Public Relations of the tribunal, Ibraheem Al-Hassan confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

He explained that the Chairman and members of his entourage, were on their way to Bauchi for an official assignment, when they were attacked by yet to be identified gunmen. He said no one was killed in the attack.

Al-Hassan said that the security personnel attached to his boss displayed rare professional excellence, as they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel.

One member of the gang was said to have been killed, while others escaped with bullet wounds.

The spokesman further stressed on the need to strengthen security around judges in the country, to forestall a re-occurrence.

“There is the temptation for some politicians whose cases are pending before the judges to be mischievous, especially as the 2015 elections draw nearer,” he said.
