Fidelity Bank MD, Nnamdi Okonkwo
Nnamdi Okonkwo, Fidelity Bank Managing Director, believes support for youth development through computer empowerment is key to national growth.
Nnamdi Okonkwo spoke recently when Fidelity Bank completed the rehabilitation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre for a school in Abuja. The bank also donated ten years free internet access to the school.
Nnamdi Okonkwo noted that when it comes to corporate social responsibility, the amount spent does not matter but the number of lives touched.”The ICT centre will make positive impact in the lives of many people,” he said.
Following his appointment as Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Nigeria on January 2, 2014, Nnamdi Okonkwo said: “I would like to be remembered as a CEO that didn’t disappoint his predecessors but took the bank to a greater height than where they left it and also set the stage for whoever is taking over from me to do better.”
Before joining the bank, Nnamdi Okonkwo was the Chief Operating Officer of United Bank for Africa subsidiary in Ghana. Nnamdi Okonkwo has a wealth of experience which spans over 25 years in the banking industry covering various sections including corporate finance, corporate banking, commercial and consumer banking.
Nnamdi Okonkwo holds a B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Benin and also MBA, Banking and Finance from Enugu State University of Science and Technology Nigeria.
He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) of INSEAD, the business school of the world. France, and has attended various other senior-level programs at other renowned institutions.
Nnamdi has been the CEO/Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Nigeria, since January 2, 2014. Before then, he was Executive Director of the South Directorate, Fidelity Bank, from 2012 to 2014; Divisional Head, Corporate Banking, from 2009 to 2012. Before moving to Fidelity Bank Plc, Nnamdi Okonkwo was CEO, West African Monetary Zone, United Bank for Africa Plc from 2008 till 2009. He was Managing Director, United Bank for Africa between 2006 and 2008. The financial expert also worked with Standard Trust South Africa and Guaranty Trust Bank in his over 25years illustrious banking career.
