The zonal coordinator of the Kero-Correct Programme for the South-South zone, Mrs Edith Johnson, said on Tuesday that kerosene would be made available for every community in the country.

Johnson told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the launch of the programme in Port Harcourt that government initiated the programme to ensure that kerosene sells at N50 per litre to Nigerians.

“This programme is aimed at making every home in the country get kerosene at cheap rate.

“By this initiative, it is expected that the product will get to every community in the country and we intend to monitor this,” she said.

Johnson, who disclosed that the Kero-Correct Programme was a Federal Government initiative, said buyers would be given tickets to buy 25 litres of the product at N50 per litre while the programme would last for three months.

“After the three months, there will be an evaluation to know the next step to take,” she said.

Mr Anthony Egbuche, the team leader of 25 NGOs collaborating with the NNPC to launch the Kero-Correct Programme, said the initiative was aimed at getting the product to the final users.

“The aim is to make the ordinary people buy kerosene at N50 per litre and we will monitor the programme strictly to ensure that the end users get the product,” he said.

Egbuche said the NGOs would remain at the various centres to ensure that ordinary Nigerians benefited from the programme.

Mrs Agnes Fynecountry, a 60-year-old house wife, commended the Federal Government for initiating the programme.

“We are happy that kerosene is being sold for N50 per litre. We urge the government to ensure that the programme is sustained and the product made available to every home in the country”, she noted.

Another user, Mrs Boma Adokiye, said the programme would assist many homes get kerosene at a cheap rate.

“We commend the Federal Government for this gesture and appeal that it is sustained. Many homes use kerosene and they stand to benefit from the programme,” she said.
