The Federal Government, yesterday, informed that it was working out modalities to ensure that all Nigerian students who desire to travel by air get 50 percent reduction in flight ticket.
Announcing this while inaugurating the Students’ Union Government of the University of Abuja, at its Mini-Campus in Gwagwalada, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Matters, Comr. Jude Imagwe said the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to make live meaningful for students.
He explained that government would partner with all airline operators in the country to consider any identified student, who chooses to board their plane by not collecting the same amount collected from the working class.
The presidential aide, who assured on the possibility of the idea tagged; ‘I Fly Student’ in the country, was optimistic that if the idea could work in Ghana, “it will also work in Nigeria.”
Imagwe maintained that the on-going transformation in youth development sector of the present administration was more than a mere political rhetoric and superficial, calling on other tiers of government, as well as policy makers to ensure realization of all efforts geared towards youth and women empowerment.
“There should be genuine efforts on the part of policy makers to promote equitable growth, generate employment, raise incomes, improve agricultural production, promote and expand informal sector livelihood,” he charged.
In his remarks, the SUG President, Comr. Olajengbesi Pelumi said it would be a thing of joy for all students in the country, if the government and the people of Nigeria could use all the zeal and courage demonstrated in tackling Ebola Virus Disease in the country to solve problems bedeviling the education sector.
