Family of the late Pius Oladele, the only dead victim of the Monday Festac bombing, has lambasted the police for attributing his death to electrical fault.
They maintained that Pius was assassinated contrary to police report.
24 hours after the explosion that rocked the bridge, linking Festac Town to Amuwo Odofin Housing Estate, DailyPost rushed to the victim’s family house at Lake View Estate to console with the family and to find out the real cause of his death.
How do you ask a bereaved woman to recall the life and times of her recently dead husband especially in a manner that Ben left her? For all intent and purpose, it is like torturing an already traumatized woman.
She was lying in coma, trying to recover from the shock. Struggling to bring herself back to reality that her breadwinner and husband was no more.
When DailyPost arrived at the Deceased’s compound, members of the family where spotted at strategic positions, discussing the sudden termination of Pius’ life.
Our reporter was told this by one of the family members “Please, if you are from the media, don’t waste your time, she’s has been in coma for hours now and she’s gradually recovering. I advise you to go and find your news elsewhere,”
“What else do you want to hear, Pius has been killed and that is all, he said. “Shebi police say na electrical spark kill am?” Another family member queried.
“Will your news bring him back, no, please she can’t talk to you now. Maybe when she gets better you can come back but not now. Thank you,” he added.
When all efforts to speak with the bereaved widow became fruitless, DailyPost cornered a neighbour to speak with. The neighbour had sincerely attributed Pius’ death to leadership tussle amongst Sand Dredgers’ Association.
According to the source who craved anonymity, Pius who happens to be the chairman of those in the business of sand dredging under the bridge had survived murder attempts severally before the attack that eventually brought him down on Monday.
Meanwhile, some persons were Tuesday arrested in connection with the explosion. It was gathered that they were linked with the phone call the deceased received shortly before the explosion.
Police sources confirmed that the suspects are currently being interrogated by Homicide detectives.
Lagos state police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, insisted that initial investigations showed that the explosion was caused by electrical fault and not a bomb.
“The experts have said the explosion was caused by an electrical fault and not a bomb. No one can fault that for now but investigations are ongoing”, she said.
