Ferguson backs Neville to succeed at Valencia

Former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has backed Gary Neville to have a successful time as head coach of Valencia.

The former Red Devils defender, who made 602 appearances under Ferguson at Old Trafford, was announced as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement on Wednesday, until the end of the season.

Ferguson, who made Neville his captain after Roy Keane left in 2005, said he has the required attributes to do well.

“Gary has many attributes that suggest he will be successful in management. His leadership skills are strong, he’s honest and he’s hard working,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.

“He is the type of character who is not afraid of making big decisions, which is a vital skill when leading. I think he’ll do well and I wish him, and his brother Phil [current Valencia assistant coach], good luck.”

Neville will officially take charge on December 6, a day after Valencia face Barcelona.
