Fenerbahce handed two-year ban by UEFA

UEFA has banned Fenerbahce from this season’s Europa League and next season’s Champions League for match-fixing.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), allowed the Turkish side to play their two-legged Champions League qualifier with Arsenal, which they lost 5-0 on aggregate, while they considered their appeal.

Today, they decided to uphold the original verdict, after their officials were found guilty of fixing matches in order to win the 2011 SuperLig title.

In an official statement, the court said: “Pursuant to the UEFA decision, which is now confirmed by the CAS, Fenerbahce is excluded from two editions of the UEFA club competitions.”

UEFA’s emergency panel, which will be chaired by president Michel Platini, will determine who will replace Fenerbahce in the competition on Thursday.
