A female youth corps member was on Friday arrested by the Sokoto State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with 9 kilogrammes of Indian hemp.
The unnamed corps member who is currently serving in Gumi Local Government Area of Zamfara state was arrested along Sokoto-Gusau road in Sokoto State.
The Commandant of the agency, Alhaji Mohammed Idris told newsmen at the NDLEA Command in Sokoto that the suspect had confessed to being initiated into the business by a fellow Corps member.
According to Idris, the suspect had boarded a luxury bus from Onitsha in Anambra state to Sokoto, from where she would board another bus to Gumi in Zamfara, when she was arrested at a check point in Sokoto.
The Commandant said, “Investigation has already commenced to fish out those who initiated her and their source of supplies, in order to prosecute them.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as we are through with our investigation,” Idris stated.
On her part, the suspect who said she regretted her action and that she did not know how her parents would feel about it. She stated that it was such a fast but crooked means of making money.
“I am ashamed of myself; this is my first time of engaging in this illegal business,” she added.
