A commercial driver, Felix Akinde, who was kidnapped last week Tuesday in Ondo State has been set free by his abductors.

Akinde was freed over the weekend after spending days in kidnappers’ den, following his kidnap while in transit to Akure, the Ondo State capital from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

It was gathered that after the initial demand of N5 million ransom by Akinde’s abductors, which was later beaten down to N2 million, the sum of N500 thousand was consequently agreed upon before he was released after series of negotiations between the driver’s family and the kidnappers.

Confirming the release of the NURTW member driver, a source stated that he was dropped by his kidnappers along a bush path on the Akure/Ikere-Ekiti road after the payment of the ransom.

“The driver was released after those kidnappers negotiated ransom with his family members and the union (NURTW).

“I wish you could see how the driver was terribly flogged and beaten with some bruises all over his body.

“Don’t forget that the hoodlums first requested five million naira but later beat it down to a sum of N2 million.

“Later on Friday, they called in again and asked his family to pay the sum of N1 million but they all pleaded to pay five hundred thousand naira.

“I am aware that one of his brothers in the family drove down to drop the ransom at a location as directed by the abductors.”

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, who also confirmed the release, maintained that officers of the Police Command are working in collaborations with other sister security agencies in the state to arrest the perpetrators.
