17-time Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer, has been forced to withdraw from the Madrid Masters on Monday with a back problem.
The Swiss remains optimistic he would recover in time, to feature in the Rome Masters next week, as he continues to prepare for the French Open.
“There’s no feeling that I can practise so at this point I don’t want to take more chances, as I know I wont be fully ready for Wednesday,” he said.
“I want to play it safe, rest up and get ready for Rome, that’s the schedule now.”
Federer took a late decision to play in Madrid, after missing almost three months of the season due to knee surgery.
