Federal Fire Service agrees to establish office in Maiduguri after Shettima’s request

The Federal Fire Service Headquarters in Abuja has agreed to site an office in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

This followed the request of Governor Kashim Shettima during a visit on Thursday to the office of the Controller General, Mr Joseph Garba Anebi.

Aside siting of a zonal office in Maiduguri, Shettima also requested capacity building for Borno State Fire Service personnel.

He informed the CG that Borno Fire Service has about 50 fire fighting vehicles but lacked human resources to man them.

The governor noted that with the dry season approaching, cases of disasters are sometimes recorded hence the need to improve Fire Service in the state to forestall loss of lives and property.

Shettima assured the CG that accommodation, logistics and other necessary support would be provided to personnel deployed to Borno for the purpose.

Governor Shettima expressed confidence that job opportunities would be created when the office is established.

Responding, Anebi granted the requests of Governor Shettima with a promise that personnel would be deployed immediately to Borno while the procedure for the siting of the office would commence immediately.

He observed that Borno State has suffered insecurity which requires the presence of the Federal Fire Service to contribute to the fight to end insurgency.

Anebi told the governor that the Service has a degree academy affiliated to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) where personnel and fire fighters in Borno can be trained.

The official disclosed that 40 fire fighting machines have been procured and that one would be deployed to Borno State.
