The youth wing of the apex Igbo social cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has endorsed the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the February 14 presidential election.
This is coming barely one week after the youth social cultural group, Afenifere endorsed Jonathan for second term.
In a statement signed by the national vice presidents’ of the group for the states of Imo, Delta, Rivers, and Ebonyi, Comrade Obinna Achinonye, Odozi Nwodozi, Kanu Oscar Nwaorisara, and Alex Okemiri, respectively, the youths described as baseless, recent media reports which portrayed them as being opposed to the re-election of the president.
According to the statement, “We, the leaders and members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths hereby state categorically clear that the publication in its entirety is false and there is no iota of truth in it”.
“This is the position of the people of the South-East hence no one has any right to renege on it on behalf of Ohanaeze youths”.
The youths, commended the endorsement of the president for re-election by the Southern Nigeria People’s Assembly at a recent meeting in Enugu ,and wondered why any person or group of persons would rise against the choice of the elders and leaders of the Igbo race.
“We as youths of Ohanaeze Ndigbo are brought up to show respect and obedience to our elders and we are therefore astonished at the disrespect the sponsors and publishers of the articles showed. to Igbo leaders”, the statement said.
The youths said that “as loyal and faithful children of Igbo extraction, we would never be compelled by financial inducement to work against the interest of Ndigbo”.
