Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on Thursday promised the sum of N5 million to any local government that will deliver highest number of votes to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Senator made the pledge in Ezeagu at the continuation of the party’s state-wide campaign rally.
While commending the people of the area for their support to the PDP, Ekweremadu urged them to replicate such feat in the February general election.
The Senator observed that the party zoned the Deputy Governorship slop to Ezeagu in recognition of their total support, assuring that the female running mate, Hon. Cecilia Ezeilo would not disappoint the people of the State.
He said, “you have always supported the PDP and I know you will do more in February 14 and February 28. We have a total of five elections, so any local government that polls the highest number of votes will get 1m naira and if one local government polls highest votes in the five elections, it will receive N5 million”.
He further promised to donate a 250-kva transformer to the award that would give highest number of votes to the PDP, stressing that “if such ward has a transformer before, they can decide what to do with it”.
Addressing the rally afterwards, Governor Sullivan Chime, who noted that he will be “free” in four months, urged the people of the state to vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan and other candidates of the party on February 14 and 28.
The governor assured that his prospective successor, PDP governorship candidate, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and his running mate, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, would be in office for eight years.
“Ugwuanyi is going for eight years, not four years, and the deputy governor, Ezeilo, is going for eight years – God willing,” Chime said.
