February elections: Don’t vote any illiterate without certificate – Sambo

As preparations for the February general elections heat up, Vice President, Namadi Sambo has called on Nigerians not to vote for some people he tagged ‘illiterates’ who don’t have certificates.

Sambo made this call on Tuesday during the presidential rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, Osun State.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, the VP said Jonathan remained the first Nigerian president with PhD., adding that as an architect, he would join his boss, Jonathan to redesign and reconstruct Nigeria.

He saidd, “President Jonathan is the first President that has PhD and I, as an architect is supporting him in reconstructing and designing Nigeria. Anything that Jonathan does is well researched, hence these transformations. The railway that has not been moving for over forty years has been moving.

“Within three to four years, we built 12 universities for the country. The power generation in Nigeria was 2,000 megawatts but we are now generating 4,500 megawatts,” Sambo said.

On the alleged dwindling federal allocation that Aregbesola claimed was the cause of unpaid salaries in Osun state, the vice president said: “Na lie o. The Federal government is not owing any state. Every month, they (governors) go to Abuja and collect their allocations, so they should be able to pay their workers.”

“The only answer is PDP; if not, you will continue to suffer, you must remove yourselves from those shackles. You need educated people to lead you or are you going to elect somebody that has no certificate?”, a question to which the crowd chorused “No”.

Also speaking earlier, President Jonathan retreated his commitment to create 8m jobs if elected.

His words, “I implore first time voters to get their permanent voters cards and vote for me and all the candidates of the PDP. We know that over eight million young Nigerians apply for jobs every year.

“We will create two million job opportunities every year and before our tenure ends in 2019, we would have reduced unemployment drastically in the country”, Jonathan said.

President Jonathan said his administration had touched many lives positively and would soon end terror in the country.

Others in attendance at the rally were party National Chairman, Adamu Muazu; Chairman of Board of Trustees, Tony Anenih, among other party leaders.
