Fear grips Nigerian lawmakers over terrorist attack on British Parliament:

Following terrorist attacks on British Parliament at Westminster in London on Wednesday, Nigerian Senators have expressed fears that nowhere is safe anymore.

In a point of order raised by the Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, he explained that the attack was an unfortunate incident happening at a time the British Parliament had done more than enough to stabilize the world.

He requested that the Nigerian Senate should condemn the attack, noting that terrorism was not limited to a particular country.

“Mr. Senate President, distinguished Colleagues, you aware of an attack against the British Parliament in Westminster yesterday. This is very unfortunate at this time, particularly what the British Parliament has done for the entire world.

“This must be condemned by Nigeria upper legislative chambers,” he said.

Senator Hassan Mohammed representing Yobe South senatorial district stressed that Nigeria Parliament was vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

He suggested that it was time the leadership of the National Assembly conducts safety drill for all personnel in the Assembly environment.

Senator George Sekibo in his contribution wished that such should not happen, adding that the aim of terrorists was to shut Parliamentarians from speaking the truth against their evil agenda.

“What are these terrorist looking for? Activities of terrorists anywhere in the world should be taken as yours. They want to discourage lawmakers from saying the truth,” he said.

Sekibo added that in the past, some Nigerian lawmakers were scared of making remarks against Boko Haram insurgents.

The Senate upheld resolutions to stand by the British Parliament in solidarity, noting that they have helped development of democracy in Commonwealth countries.
