In the aftermath of FCT Council elections, Senator Tanimu Philip Aduda representing Federal Capital Territory has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for unimaginable violence despite the Independent National Electoral Commission’s proactive measures to avoid the ugly incident.
Briefing journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja , Aduda expressed disappointment on the Security arrangement preparatory to the Council elections, noting, that Security arrangement of the Federal Capital Territory was changed as manipulated by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“You will recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially fixed 29th March, 2016, but shifted it to 9th April, 2016 for reasons best known to them and areas declared inconclusive was to be held on Wednesday, 13th April,” he said.
“Despite the fact that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the elections was introduced and DPOs were changed surreptitiously all over the Federal Capital Territory, we told our supporters to be law abiding and be prepared to vote candidates of their choice,” he added.
Aduda explained that the inconclusive elections across the four Area Councils were marred by irregularities and violence where senior members of the contesting All Progressives Congress accompanied with thugs went to polling units and demanded for ballot papers and those ones not favour were destroyed.
“In Karu ward specifically, senior members of the All Progressives Congress came with thugs and destroyed ballot papers and asked their supporters to go on rampage,” he said.
What was worrisome, Aduda said ”was that after a total destruction of the ballot papers, the officer in charge of Independent National Electoral Commission at those polling units in Karu made replacements, but some Senior government officials surfaced and ordered their supporters to destroy them for the second time,” he said.
