Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has again stated that his administration would not recognize the Local Council Development Areas created by his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
Fayose said aside the fact that the matter is in court, he would comply fully with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution on local government creation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Fayose said Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, clearly spells out the authorities and procedures for the creation of local governments.
The governor stressed that pending the pronouncements of the courts, the administration will be guided by the provision of Section 3 and Part 1, first schedule of the 1999 Constitution on the list of Local Governments in Nigeria in the allocation of resources to that tier of government.
Fayose assured the people of Ekiti State that he would not do anything to undermine the court and the constitution in regards to the LCDA issue.
He called on the people to continue to support his government.
The governor had during his inauguration said he would not fund the additional 19 LCDAs created by Fayemi with funds meant for the constitutionally recognised local government areas in the state.
