Fayose swears-in new judge

Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti on Friday swore-in Mr Dele Omotosho as a judge in the state judiciary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Omotosho is a former Chairman of the Ado-Ekiti branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

He chaired the panel that found Fayose guilty in 2006, which led to his impeachment in controversial circumstances.

Speaking at the ceremony, Fayose said he decided to inaugurate Omotosho as a sign of forgiveness, to let people know that he harboured no grudge against anyone.

He said it was unfortunate that the former governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, refused to inaugurate Omotosho despite the approval given by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

“Vengeance belongs to God and everything works together for good of all,’’ Fayose said.

He charged judicial officers to discharge their duties with the fear of God, promising that he would not muzzle anybody or interfere with their official conduct.

“There is nothing personal that I have against the judiciary.

“People would want to be where you are and life is about struggles.

“We need more judges and we will help in making them comfortable in the discharge of their duties.

“People said I should not swear him in because he sat on my impeachment panel.

“I want the other arms of government to give my administration a fair hearing and the chance to perform,’’ he said.

Fayose called on the Speaker, Ekiti House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, and members of the assembly to cooperate with his administration to ensure the growth of the state.

He urged Omirin and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ayo Daramola, to put the interest of the state first.

“I am ready to work with the assembly and the judiciary. I am a man of uncommon history; coming back to office after eight years is divine.

“I have a stern warning from God, not to retaliate.

“I plead with the other two arms of government that Ekiti should come first.

“You may not like my face and I may not like yours, but Ekiti should be number one,’’ he said.

Omotosho, in his remark, thanked the governor for acting on the NJC recommendation.

He promised to abide by his oath of office. (NAN)
