Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the raid of Daily Trust regional office in Maiduguri, Borno State by armed soldiers on Sunday.
DAILY POST had reported that the soldiers shut the gate of the Maiduguri regional office, after arresting two editorial staff.
Few hours after shutting down the Maiduguri office, soldiers also invaded the newspaper’s head office in Abuja and its Lagos bureau office.
In a statement Monday morning, Brigadier General Sani Usman, Director of Army Public Relations, disclosed that the operatives were at Daily Trust offices to invite the staff of the company over its lead story on Sunday Trust publication, which “divulged classified military information, thus undermining national security”.
But reacting, Fayose writing on his Twitter Page, condemned the action of the soldiers.
The former governor recalled how he warned Nigerians about voting for Buhari.
Fayose Twitted: “Before us is a full-blown dictatorship & I warned! Now in a democracy, Army invaded @daily_trust office, took its staff away! Ain’t we back to Buhari’s tyranny of 1984 when under Decree 4, journalists must not report information considered embarrassing to govt?”
