Fayose proposes establishment of Ekiti Economic Crimes Commission

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has proposed the establishment of Ekiti Economic Crimes Commission (EECC) to check finances of the state.

Fayose stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been ruled out from investigating finances of the state.

He said the passage of bill for the establishment of Ekiti Economic Crimes Commission (EECC) is a fight for democracy.

In a statement on his twitter page, he wrote “Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti has ruled that EFCC lacked power to investigate finances of a State.

“The court said, in federalism, the FG is not an overseer or supervisor regarding finances of a State. That only the State House of Assembly can investigate finances of a State

“Consequently, the EFCC has been restrained from interfering in the running of Ekiti State by either investigating or arresting any official of the State Govt.

“We will continue to fight for the sustenance of our hard earned democracy, using legal means.

“A bill for the establishment of Ekiti Economic Crimes Commission (EECC) that I sent to the House of Assembly was today, sent to the House Committee on Public Accounts & Anti Corruption. It has passed 2nd reading. Nigeria is a federation and we must run it like one.‎”
