Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has announced the promotion of 37,100 workers covering promotion arrears in the civil service between 2015 to 2017.
Governor Fayose, who called on the workers to challenge the Federal government not to oppress Ekiti State, in the scheme of things, said the FG was sitting on the common wealth of the state.
He said the labour leaders should look into the books of the FG for transparency.
“Every state is supposed to get its own share of the extra dollars on the sale of oil in the country, but the FG is not giving the state its due allocation”, he said.
Fayose made the remarks at the 2018 May Day celebration held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, on Tuesday, promising the workers that he would not leave the state as a debtor governor, hoping that he would pay them all the salary arrears before the end of his tenure.
“Your interest would be my priority until my last day in office; I would not leave the state as a debtor governor in Ekiti”, he assured.
He, however, condemned the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying they said they would come to rig election in Ekiti State.
Earlier, in his speech, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Raymond Adesanmi, said the workers in the state are hungry, calling on the governor to pay outstanding salaries owed the workers, which include 5 months for the state civil servants, 8 months for the local government workers and 6 months for higher institution in the state.
Comrade Adesanmi also called on the governor to pay gratuity and pensions for all the senior citizens that are affected.
At the celebration, which was sparsely attended by the workers, Fayose later introduce his deputy governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, as the man after his heart, urging the workers to vote for him at the next election.
The governor said: “Prof. Kolapo Olusola, is the man to be Governor of Ekiti State, the man to take over from me.”
