Fayose is honouring Fayemi’s late deputy, not desecrating her tomb – Ekiti Government

Ekiti State government has described claim by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State that the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose was desecrating the tomb of the late Deputy Governor, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka as myopic and weird.

The government said; “if the APC is regarding construction of a befitting edifice to be named after the late deputy governor as desecration of her tomb, someone needs to have his reasoning faculty reassessed.”

Special Assistant to the State governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, who reacted to the APC claim said; “a four storey edifice to be called Funmi Olayinka Women Development Centre is being constructed in front of the late deputy governor’s tomb and if the APC is telling the world that doing that to honour the woman amounts to desecration of her tomb, it means the APC in Ekiti State has members with very serious case of psychosis.”

Olayinka, who admonished the APC to stop criticizing the Fayose-led government just for the sake of being seen to be talking, added that “the more the APC spew out errant nonsense as they have been doing, the more the party is hated by Ekiti people, who overwhelming made Fayose their governor.”

He said the Women Development Centre being built in honour of Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka, who was Dr Kayode Fayemi’s deputy, would serve as location for addressing issues relating to women in the State.

“To Governor Fayose, dumping the late deputy governor’s corpse in an open space with no benefit to the people is not enough. Rather, while the tomb remains where it is, the government has deemed it necessary to put up an edifice in front of the tomb in her honour and for the benefit of women in the State.

“If the APC people in the State are seeing that as desecration of her tomb, something needs to be done to their reasoning faculty urgently,” Olayinka said.
