Fayose escapes as hoodlums attack his convoy

Tragedy was averted Saturday as erstwhile Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose miraculously cheated death when some unknown hoodlums attacked his driver, Mr Nathaniel Saliu between Ilupeju-Ekiti and Ire-Ekiti thinking he was inside the vehicle.

It was learnt that the ex-governor who was said to have traveled to Abuja by road for a political appointment, sent his driver back to Ado-Ekiti, the state capital before the vehicle and the driver were attacked by the unknown men.

Saliu told newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday that the incident occurred between 11 a.m. and 12 Noon while returning from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to Ado-Ekiti.

Visibly elated Saliu said midway into his journey, he noticed a white Hilux van with registration number ADC 11 AY (Abuja) conveying about six passengers trailing his SUV.

According to him, initially, he was not frightened until they got to a bad portion of the road and the suspected assassins blocked his way, and four able-bodied men suddenly alighted from the vehicle and started beating him, while asking: “where is your boss?, where is Fayose,” repeatedly. Saliu further disclosed that when the hoodlums discovered that Fayose was not inside the vehicle, they went back to their vehicle.

The driver added that immediately after the incident, he went to Oke-Ila Police Station at about 2pm to report the matter.

While reacting, Fayose condemned the act, describe it as purely an attempt on his life. He therefore, urged relevant authorities to rise up against security challenges in the country.
