One Ikeokwu Onyemachi, a father of two, was on Wednesday shot dead by a certain police officer attached to the Eziama Police Division while attempting to seize his motorcycle at Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State.
The deceased, a Port Harcourt-based businessman, and his friend, Okike, who hails from Abala community in Obingwa council area, were on their way home after depositing the body of Okike’s father at Group Medical Practice mortuary near Azuka Police Division.
According to reports, the killer policeman and his colleagues who were in an ash-coloured Peugeot 504, attempted to seize their motorcycle shortly after they reportedly left the morgue.
However, several explanations by the deceased and his friend to the Police team that they just deposited the corpse of Okike’s father at the mortuary, were not heeded.
Thereafter, one of the policemen, whose name could not be got as at press time, allegedly pulled his gun and shot Onyemachi on the forehead.
The Police team were said to have fled soon after.
The late Onyemachi, it was gathered, was confirmed dead by medical personnel at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH.
The Abia state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ezekiel Onyeke, when contacted, confirmed the incident, saying the State Commissioner of Police, Habila Joshak, had directed the arrest of the killer policeman.
