The police in Lagos State have confirmed that one John Paul on Monday hung himself in a hotel in the FESTAC Town of the state.
The man had paid for a night in the hotel.
The deceased, in his 30s, was discovered dangling from a rope in his room at Ascort Hotel by one of the hotel workers on the said day.
The hotel worker alerted the attention of the hotel manager, simply identified as Ayedapa, who reported the matter at the FESTAC Town Police Division.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying, “Investigation is ongoing.”
The Punch reported that Paul, who was married with two children, did not inform his family members that he was checking into a hotel.
He was alleged to have committed suicide as a result of financial challenges after he checked into the hotel on Monday and was supposed to spend 24 hours.
The following day, the deceased was supposed to check out by 12pm but when the hotel workers did not see him, they reportedly went to his room and discovered through the window that he had hung himself with a rope.
The deceased’s relations, led by Paul’s wife, Ugochukwu, resident on 322 Road, J Close, were not aware that he lodged into any hotel.
They were said to have reported a case of a missing person at the police division and on getting there, they discovered that he had committed suicide in a hotel.
Officials of the state Emergency Service evacuated the corpse after the family members identified it and it has since been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
