A man from Otukpa, a community in Otukpa Local Government Area of Benue State has claimed that his daughter, who left home for school three days ago, was one of the victims of Sundays ghastly accident that claimed the lives of about eight persons, including a nursing mother.
It was gathered that a tanker carrying diesel fell on a Volkswagen car on Sunday, killing all occupants, including a student and a nursing mother.
A man who claimed to be a father of one of the students involved in the accident said his daughter left home on Thursday last week for school.
He further stated that his family was of the belief that the deceased was already in school, only for them to discover her corpse among dead bodies of the victims on Sunday.
“We all believed she was in school since Thursday. What was she doing in Otukpa for the past 3 days? Why is her corpse lying amongst those accident victims here?”, he asked in anguish.
It was gathered that when the incident occurred, officials of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, were unable to evacuate the remains as their was no towing van to lift the tanker.
According to a member of the community who spoke on the condition of anonymity, “the officers of the FRSC really tried their best; they had to keep vigil at the accident spot in Odoba till Monday morning when they were able to get a towing van from Enugu State to remove the tanker from the bodies of the victims which were crushed beyond recognition. Can you imagine that the FRSC doesn’t have such equipment in Benue State?”
