Father flees after abandoning year-old son in Yobe hospital

A yet-to-be identified man has reportedly abandoned a one-year-old kid believed to be his biological son at Gashua General Hospital in Yobe state for unknown reasons, about eight months ago.

The management of the hospital through Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Mai Jawa, confirmed the development to DAILY POST Friday, saying that all relevant authorities have been duly informed about the kid’s issue.

Malama Marka Audu, a cleaner with the hospital whom the unknown person entrusted custody of the boy before disappearing, had volunteered to serve as a foster mother of the kid pending the resurfacing of his biological father.

“Precisely in August 2018, his father, whose identity is still unknown, visited Gashua General Hospital around 7 O’clock in the morning, claiming to have brought his sick wife for admission into the Hospital.

“He sought for my assistance to briefly watch over the lad pending the negotiation of logistical requirements for admitting his ‘sick wife’.

“However, the man suddenly disappeared leaving the young boy with me, a matter which I reported to the management of the hospital and for 8 months now he (unknown man) is nowhere to be found neither did anyone see the bed which his ‘sick wife’ is said to been admitted,” she recounted.

The educational needs and other basic requirements of life are some of the major challenges to Malama Marka, who is also living hand to mouth, hence she solicited the support of the public to come and invest in the future of the abandoned boy.

“My income is meagre, I need helping hands to carter for the boy’s needs”, she appealed.

As it is now, nobody knows what could have caused the father to abandon his child to his fate, particularly as the boy is medically certified to be one year old.
