A fatal accident in the Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos state in the wee hours of Thursday reportedly claimed one life, leaving scores wounded.
The deceased, a woman, identified only as Iya Ewe, died instantly while 17 others sustained various degrees of injuries in a commercial bus that was enroute Mile 12 from the Island.
Although the main cause of the crash could not be established as at press time, preliminary reports say the bus somersaulted at a spot around Alapere inward Toll gate.
Confirming the accident, the General Manager, GM, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele, told newsmen that the corpse had been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital.
He said, “The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Trauma Centre, Toll Gate.”
He also commended the quick intervention of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Commander RRS at the scene of the incident.
While sympathizing with the family of the dead victim, the GM advised motorist, especially late night drivers to always take extreme caution while driving at night to avoid such incidents leading to loss of lives.
